Set up the Apexia QR Pet Tag
Review the Apexia QR Pet Tag product details before activation.
- Scan the new tag. Open the camera or built-in QR scanner on an internet-connected Android phone or iPhone and point it at the code.
- Start activation. Follow the on-screen instructions. Sign in to your Apexia owner account or create one when prompted.
- Create the pet profile. Enter the pet and contact information you want a finder to use. Check names, telephone numbers and any important medication, behaviour or vet notes.
- Control what is displayed. Only publish information you are comfortable showing to someone who scans the physical tag.
- Save and test. Scan again after saving. If possible, use a different phone that is not signed in to your owner account so you see the finder-facing page.
- Attach it securely. Fit the tag to a suitable collar or harness and check the attachment regularly.
Update an existing pet profile
- Go to pet.apexia.app and sign in.
- Open the pet connected to the physical tag you want to update.
- Edit the contact, address, pet or care information that has changed.
- Save the profile.
- Scan the physical tag and verify the finder view.
The printed QR code does not need to change when the contents of its linked online profile change. That is why a telephone number or care note can be updated without buying a new tag.
Run a quick monthly check
- Confirm the tag is still attached and the QR surface is clean and readable.
- Scan it and confirm it opens the correct pet.
- Check the primary and backup contact details.
- Review time-sensitive medication or behaviour notes.
- Confirm an email or SMS scan notification arrives.
Understand scan-location alerts
When the tag is scanned, Apexia sends an email or SMS notification. For the alert to contain exact coordinates, the finder’s browser must be able to request location and the finder must allow it. Indoor reception, device settings and permission choices can affect accuracy or leave the scan without coordinates.
A declined location request does not stop the finder from opening the profile and contacting you. The displayed details therefore remain an important recovery route.
Troubleshoot a QR code that will not scan
- Wipe dirt and moisture from the code with an appropriate soft cloth.
- Move into even light and tilt the tag to reduce glare.
- Clean the phone camera lens and hold the phone still.
- Move the camera slightly closer and farther away so it can focus.
- Try the phone’s dedicated QR scanner or another modern smartphone.
- Check that the phone has a working mobile data or Wi-Fi connection.
- If the printed code is damaged or still unreadable, email [email protected] with a clear photograph of the tag.
Troubleshoot a profile update
- Make sure you edited the pet linked to the tag you are testing.
- Confirm the form reported that the update was saved.
- Refresh the finder page or test in a private browser window to avoid an old cached view.
- Sign out and back in if the account shows stale information.
- Do not publish account passwords, private documents or unnecessary personal details in finder-visible fields.
Set up the Apexia Smart Tracker
The Apexia Smart Tracker is a separate powered product and is currently sold out. Apexia’s published setup flow is:
- Use an Android phone or iPhone to add and activate the tracker in the compatible finding app.
- Fit the tracker securely to the pet’s collar using the chosen colour case.
- Open the compatible finding app to view locations reported through its network.
- Monitor the app’s battery information and test location updates before relying on it.
Apexia does not currently publish model-specific reset steps, a numeric battery duration, fixed range or IP rating. For those details, request the current manual from support rather than following instructions for a visually similar third-party device.
Setup questions
How do I activate an Apexia QR Pet Tag?
Scan the new tag with a smartphone and follow the on-screen activation steps. Create or sign in to the owner account, complete the linked pet profile, save it and test the tag before attaching it securely.
How do I update my Apexia pet profile?
Sign in at pet.apexia.app, open the pet linked to the tag, edit the required fields and save. Scan the physical tag afterwards to verify the finder-facing information.
Why did a scan alert not include a location?
Exact coordinates depend on the finder allowing their phone browser to share location. If they decline, the tag can still open the profile and they can still contact the owner.
What should I do if the QR code will not scan?
Clean and dry the tag, improve the light, avoid glare, hold the camera steady and try the phone’s QR scanner. Confirm the phone has internet access. If the code remains unreadable, contact Apexia support.
