Questions and answers
What is the difference between the Apexia QR Pet Tag and Apexia Smart Tracker?
The QR Pet Tag opens an owner-controlled pet profile when a finder scans it and then alerts the owner. The Smart Tracker is a separate location-network device viewed in a compatible Apple or Android finding app. The QR tag is not live GPS.
Does the Apexia QR Pet Tag need a battery or charging?
No. A printed QR code has no battery or powered electronics, so the QR Pet Tag does not need charging. The finder’s internet-connected phone opens the linked pet profile.
What is the range of the Apexia QR Pet Tag?
A QR tag does not broadcast and therefore has no Bluetooth or GPS range. A finder must be close enough to scan it. The online profile can then open wherever the finder has a working internet connection.
Is the Apexia QR Pet Tag waterproof?
Apexia has not published a verified material specification or waterproof/IP rating for the QR Pet Tag. Do not assume a tested immersion depth or duration; contact Apexia if a verified water-resistance rating is essential for your dog.
What happens when an Apexia QR Pet Tag is scanned?
The finder sees the owner-controlled pet profile and can use the contact details shown. The owner receives an email or SMS scan alert. Exact scan coordinates depend on the finder allowing their browser to share location.
Does a finder need the Apexia app to scan the QR Pet Tag?
No. A finder can use the camera or QR scanner on a modern smartphone. They need an internet connection to open the pet profile.
Does the Apexia QR Pet Tag work with Android and iPhone?
Yes. Its QR code can be scanned by modern Android phones and iPhones without a dedicated Apexia app for the finder.
Is the Apexia QR Pet Tag a GPS tracker?
No. It reports a finder-assisted scan location; it does not continuously transmit the pet’s location. Choose a cellular GPS tracker if you require live movement tracking and escape alerts.
Does the Apexia QR Pet Tag have a monthly subscription?
No. The current price is £30 including postage, and the editable profile plus email or SMS scan alerts are included without a monthly subscription.
How long does the Apexia Smart Tracker battery last?
Apexia currently describes the battery as extra-long but does not publish a measured duration. Battery life varies with use and conditions, so request the current product specification before relying on a particular interval.
What is the range of the Apexia Smart Tracker?
Apexia does not publish a fixed range. It uses a compatible Apple or Android finding app, so nearby finding and wider network updates depend on the chosen phone network, nearby participating devices, radio conditions and obstructions. It is not advertised as a cellular live GPS tracker.
Is the Apexia Smart Tracker waterproof?
Apexia has not published an IP water-resistance rating for the Smart Tracker. Until a current rating is supplied, do not assume it is suitable for swimming or immersion.
Does the Apexia Smart Tracker work with Android and iPhone?
Apexia lists setup through a compatible Apple or Android finding app. Set it up for the phone and network you use; simultaneous or cross-network behaviour is not documented and should not be assumed. The tracker is currently sold out.
How do I update the information on an Apexia QR Pet Tag?
Log in at pet.apexia.app, open the pet linked to the tag, edit the profile and save. Scan the physical tag afterwards to confirm that the finder-facing information is current.
Does a QR pet tag or tracker replace microchipping or a legally compliant dog identity tag?
No. QR pet tags and trackers are extra recovery tools. In England, dog microchipping rules apply and dogs in public must wear the owner’s name and address on the collar or an attached plate or badge, subject to limited exemptions.
Keep identification layers separate
A QR pet tag or tracker is an additional recovery route, not a replacement for the identification required by law. Check the current GOV.UK dog collar rules and microchipping guidance for the nation where you live.
Still need a product specification?
Email [email protected] or call 0161 399 2961. Ask for the current written specification before relying on an unpublished battery, range or water-resistance figure.
