Apexia’s current offer does not add a monthly payment for those QR-tag functions.
Why a QR tag does not need a mobile data plan
A cellular GPS tracker contains powered radio hardware and sends location data over a mobile connection. Someone must pay for that connectivity, which is why many live GPS products pair a hardware price with a required plan.
An Apexia QR Pet Tag does not transmit. Its printed code contains a link to the tag’s online record. When a finder scans it, the finder’s phone and internet connection open the profile. That architecture means the tag has no battery to charge and no SIM or mobile data contract of its own.
What happens during a scan
- A finder opens their phone camera or QR scanner and points it at the tag.
- The linked Apexia profile opens in the phone’s web browser; no finder app is required.
- The finder sees the contact and pet-care information the owner has chosen to display.
- Apexia sends the owner an email or SMS scan notification.
- If the finder permits browser location access, the alert can include that scan location.
- The finder uses the profile details to contact the owner directly.
If the finder declines location permission, they can still view the profile and make contact. The QR tag reports a scan event; it does not follow the pet continuously.
How profile updates work without replacing the tag
The QR code identifies the same online profile after you change its contents. Log in at pet.apexia.app, update the linked pet and contact fields, save, then scan the physical tag to confirm the finder view. This is useful after moving home, changing a telephone number or adding an important care note.
